Radiometer’s bloodgas.org now acutecaretesting.org
Radiometer has just relaunched its knowledge site bloodgas.org under a new name: acutecaretesting.org.

According to Anne Skurup, editor of acutecaretesting.org, the relaunch reflects three critical changes in the website: scope, usability and graphics.

“The biggest change is of course in the scope of our articles,” says Anne Skurup. “When we started off in 2002 with bloodgas.org, our main focus was, as the name says, blood gas and blood gas related parameters. But as the years went on, we found ourselves increasingly dealing with other acute care testing topics adjacent to blood gas, such as tight glycemic control and cardiac markers. These topics reflect the everyday of our readers, so instead of shying away from them, we decided to embrace them.“

In addition to a broader scope of acute care related topics, the site has also improved its usability. “Today there are more than two hundred articles on the site and every year, this number increases by almost 10%”, she says. “That prompted us to reorganize the information in a way that is more intuitive to users and optimize the search function.” Last, but not least, the site has also been through a graphical “makeover”.

Today, acutecaretesting.org has more than 17,000 registered users worldwide and is often named in publications and conferences as a source of information. Registration is free, and users have the option of subscribing to a quarterly electronically newsletter. Content is provided by healthcare professionals around the world, including key opinion leaders, lab managers, point-of-care coordinators, physicians and nurses. Despite its corporate sponsor, the site remains true to its policy of non-commercial content.

This policy, Anne Skurup says, is one of the main reasons for the site’s success. “That, and the fact that we offer so much practical information on individual parameters. Our user polls show a concrete need for this type of information, especially for educational purposes.”
